UNIX Course-Related Services

The UNIX course-related service allows faculty to request UNIX services for each student in a course. Space allocations for this service no longer apply due to the 1GB maximum quota available to PASS users. Please see the "Directory Quotas" section of the ITS Secure Server for details. More information about PASS is found on the PASS information page.

The UNIX course-related service is available for one semester.

Requirements: To apply for the UNIX course-related service, you must:

  1. Be an Instructor of a Penn State class.
  2. Have a Penn State Access Account.

To request the UNIX course-related service for instruction, simply apply via the online UNIX General and Research Instruction form.

NOTE: Faculty or staff members can request that students, who need a UNIX account for project work, have access to this service by adding student information under the "Users" section of the ITS Academic Computing Services Request Form.

This form is in PDF format and requires the free software Adobe Acrobat Reader. Please submit the completed form to the ITS Computer Accounts Office, 101 Computer Building, University Park or fax to 814-865-9289.

Instead of filling out the form, all Penn State Access Account holders with email services can request UNIX Services for themselves by clicking the "Apply for UNIX" button on the Application for UNIX General Research and Instruction Services Web page. Note: You will be prompted to enter your Penn State Access Account user id and password before the page will display.

If necessary, additional megabytes can be purchased on a per needed basis. Please send a request to accounts@psu.edu or use the ITS Academic Computing Services Request Form to request Course-related UNIX service space increases. ITS reserves the right to limit disk allocations.
