Accounts Re-engineering

The Accounts Re-engineering Project (Central Accounts Coordination Tracking of User Services or CACTUS) was necessitated by the Y2K non-compliance of the former CAC IBM mainframe. The CACTUS project, which began in 1999 and continues to be an integral part of digital identity management a Penn State, is a collaborative effort between the Accounts Office and AIT. The team of programmers and system administrators moved the accounts systems data and processes from PSUVM into a widely accessible, user-friendly format in a distributed systems environment, preserving and expanding its existing functionality. CACTUS allows the Accounts Services Office, Campus Information Technology Coordinators and ITS Lab consultants to query, track, and create user services. The system is supported by a relational database system and deploys open standards such as Java, JDBC, and Linux.
