File SystemsAcademic Services provides access to and expertise with NFS, AFS and DCE/DFS filesystems. AIT currently distributes software via AFS and NFS and is developing an integrated DCE/DFS approach to the next generation of Penn State ACCESS services and software distribution. Interested departments or individuals are welcome to inquire about 3rd party/freeware AFS software distribution of AIX (3.2.5, 4.1.x and 4.2.x), Solaris (2.4, 2.5.x and 2.6), and IRIX Software (6.2-6.5.x). The Distributed Filesystem (DFS) is one of the applications of the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE). DFS makes use of DCE authentication to control access to security services to protect and control access to data. Your Penn State Access Account userid and password will grant you access to a variety of Penn State services, including your Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS). PASS can be accessed via:
More information about secure file transfer options is available at the FTP Alternatives Web site. The DCE/DFS client for Windows NT can be downloaded at https://www.work.psu.edu/access/dce/. A client for Windows 2000 is available; however, it is not site licensed. The fee for the client is $200 per license. For information and assistance regarding the Windows 2000 client, please contact root@aset.psu.edu. This filesystem is currently used to serve the public UNIX labs, licensed software, several Web sites, such as the Penn State World Campus and Penn State Harrisburg and various Penn State Access services. |
