Special Projects

The Academic Services Special Projects Group was formed in part to answer the need for UNIX systems administration in departments, colleges, and at other Penn State locations that do not have this ability locally. This group provides consulting and support for AIX, IRIX, and Solaris systems. The group currently supports departments in the Eberly College of Science, the Smeal College of Business, the College of Engineering, and the College of Liberal Arts. UNIX expertise is provided for the School of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) programs at University Park, and for Penn State York, Penn State Mount Alto, Penn State McKeesport and Penn State Delaware County.

Machines donated via the IBM SUR (Shared University Research) grants are also supported by Unix consultants. IBM SUR Grants were made to the College of Business; Penn State Erie, The Behrend College; Penn State York; the Department of Economics; and the School of Information Sciences and Technology (IST).

The Special Projects Group provides both hourly-based consulting and annual retainer-based consulting to Penn State departments. For more information, please send e-mail to unix-group@psu.edu.
