In an effort to better provide and support distributed computing services at Penn State, Academic Services and Emerging Technologies (ASET), a unit of Information Technology Services, will perform a major upgrade to one of the large central services computers (otherwise known as " the SP") providing those services between 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2004.
How it Affects You
Several major services requiring authentication with a Penn State Access Account userid and password will be unavailable during this time frame. Services include the following:
E-mail services

- authsmtp.psu.edu
- psu.edu
- WebMail
- Listserv
Web Services
- Personal Web server, www.personal.psu.edu
- Course Online Account (COLA), www.courses.psu.edu
- Departmental Web space, www.psu.edu/dept/
- Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS)
- Any Web services requiring authentication
- Virtual Hosts
- Proxy Server, proxy.aset.psu.edu
- ITS Secure server, www.work.psu.edu, including the auto-reply "vacation" service
Other Services
- Domain Name Service (DNS) handled by the SP
- news.psu.edu
- Video Charger
- SFTP - file transfer
- SSH
- Dialup modem access
- CorporateTime
- VPN
- UNIX cluster login
- Firewall configuration page (for faculty/staff only)
- eLion authentication
- AuthPals
- LIAS
- ITS/TLT/CLC Student Computer Labs login
- Note: This does not affect the Windows XP machines in the lab as they do Windows auth. only
