Security Tightened on wilbur.cac.psu.edu

posted on May 21, 2004

University Park, PA -- In an effort to continue password security, several insecure services have been disabled on the machine wilbur.cac.psu.edu, including "telnet" and "ftp". Replacement services include "ssh" and "scp", which have been available since 1996 and have been encouraged since 2001.

This is a legacy system and it is recommended to those who use wilbur.cac.psu.edu to migrate from wilbur.cac.psu.edu to one of the official ITS services for e-mail, file space, Web space, or research and instructional UNIX access as soon as possible. More information may be obtained via the ITS Accounts Services Office Web site.

Please note that wilbur.cac.psu.edu will be fully decommissioned later this summer. This will be announced two to four weeks prior to its final removal.
