In addition to regular job responsibilities, many ASET staff members participate in both professionally- and personally- oriented activities by serving on University and/or national committees, attending and presenting at University-based and national conferences, teaching seminars and/or by serving as community volunteers. Please note that the information below is based on the annual report submissions. Some participants/activities as well as dates, places and other information, may not be reflected on this list.
This year, ASET welcomed new staff members Monica Grubb (Directors' Office), Derek Morr (ET), Murali Ramsunder (GEaRS) and Phil Sorber (GEaRS). In addition, ASET welcomed South Hills Business School (SHBS) intern Corey Riddle. Corey, who reports to Jim Leous in ET, is working on developing social software which leverages ASET's enterprise infrastructure. Corey's background is the CIS program (Computer and Information Systems) at SHBS. He has taken the course work for both the programming track and the system administration track.
ASET said farewell to Tom Adams who, after thirty-seven years of service, retired on July 6, 2004.
This year, two ASET employees transitioned to different positions within the organization. In April, Jim Vuccolo became the manager of a newly created group within AIT, the Software Solutions Group. In June, Jerry Mihaly became the manager of the ITS Accounts Services Office. On a related note: In June, the UNIX Systems and Technical Solutions Group, also in AIT, managed by Phil Pishioneri, changed its name to Enabling Technologies.
In December 2003, twenty staff members, representing all ASET groups, participated in a three-hour HRDC professional development course, "The Essentials of Project Management," taught by Barbara Sherlock. The course provided some of the basics of project management, workflow challenges and potential solutions. It also provided a means by which staff from the different groups within ASET were able to work together to timeline and appropriate resources for mock projects. Information obtained from this seminar has been used, in a flexible way, to help plan ASET projects and intiatives.
