ISCSI

Description

Internet Small Computer Systems Interface or iSCSI uses TCP to encapsulate the SCSI protocol, enabling a machine to do block I/O as if the resources (/e.g./ SCSI disks or tape drives) were local. This project will examine the use of iSCSI in conjunction with the Penn State Data Backbone to utilize remotely located storage devices. Results will be compared with Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) as well as networked filesystem performance. Other areas for evaluation are comparison of software-based and hardware-based iSCSI initiator performance, usability compared to an FC SAN, and ability to boot from an iSCSI disk.
