| Project SAMON
Applied Research Laboratory The goal of the Ocean SAmpling MObile Network (SAMON) Project is the development of an autonomous ocean sampling network. The SAMON controller has been designed to support a multi-vehicle, autonomous, underwater oceanographic and environmental data collection system. As a multi-institutional ( Florida Atlantic University, U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, University of Maine, Carnegie Mellon, MIT, NIST, Harvard University, University of California-Berkeley) collaborative research effort, Project SAMON's need for high bandwidth and low latency extend across project needs. The research effort itself requires high powered networking to enable the exchange of large volumes of information between remote vehicles and controllers. Additionally, researchers require robust networks to have multiple sites participate in the testbed. Visitors to this demonstration will hear about the role Internet2 is currently playing in the project as well as how the research team intends to take advantage of the new capabilities Internet2 provides. Location: Applied Research Laboratory Scheduled Demonstration Times: 1:15, 2:15, 3:15. Research and C&IS staff will be on hand during other times to answer questions. Please note: Visitors to the Applied Research Laboratory demonstration will need to register with the receptionist in the lobby of the building before being escorted to the demonstration area. Please allow for a few extra minutes travel time. |
